Tennessee School for the Blind (TSB)
recognizes the concern that parents and students share concerning
nutrition at the school level and how it directly affects children’s
educational development.
A new Federal law, The Child
Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization of 2004, states that all school
districts must establish a School Wellness Policy by the beginning of
the 2006/2007 school year.
School Nutrition professionals
continue to lead the way in promoting healthy eating habits in schools.
Among the efforts here at TSB are:
A School Wellness Policy and
School Wellness Team (SWT)
Adding more fruit and vegetable
choices like kiwi and fresh spinach
Offering more items with
whole grains
Continuing to evaluate food
products based on nutritional values
Continue to improve healthy
options available to students like wraps and salads
Offering parents more detailed
nutritional education and menu analysis on the schools website
To continue to incorporate our
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Program (HACCP)
(This is a program to prevent or
eliminate contamination by targeting safety measures in the Foodservice
Department.)
Below you will find some excellent
websites concerning nutrition. Our primary concern here at Tennessee School for the Blind is
to provide an appealing and nutritious alternative to “junk foods” and
poor eating habits.
